Kit Garoutte Abstract Art

I have made art all my life. In fact, before I decided to commit to life as a musician, I had dreams of being an artist. I started by copying cartoons, from the old "Archy and Mehitabel" series to "Cowpokes" to "Archie" comics and so on. After a while I began to draw from photos to create portraits, and over the years, while drawing a variety of subjects I most often did portraits and figure drawing, focusing on trying capture a realistic look that had a relaxed flow as well. I loved it, especially in phases when it didn't conflict with my musical endeavors too much, but it became kind of hard work more often than not as I strove to get to a more and more refined finished version.

A couple of years back, I began to dabble with abstract art using paint, rather than pencil, charcoal, pastels, and other drawn mediums. I immediately experienced an amazing joy in improvisational exploration, trying many different paint application techniques and allowing each painting to "be what it wants to be." The joy and fulfillment I've found in the process have been amazing! Sooooooo fun...
